Religious Symbols Act Introduced
Bipartisan lawmakers have introduced federal legislation that would allow community association owners to display religious symbols, objects and signs on the exterior of their dwelling. This proposed law is a part of the Freedom of Religious Expression in the Home Act which according to the sponsors of the Act, was needed because of a recent federal appeals court ruling that upheld the right of a condominium association to ban the affixing of mezuzahs on doors. If passed, the new law would specifically prohibit rules that ban the display of religious symbols on the outside of homes unless the rule is "reasonable and necessary to prevent significant damage to property, physical harm to persons, a public nuisance or similar undue hardship."
