Will the DNC Affect Your Association?
As Denver braces for the impact of the Democratic National Convention next month by contracting for a wireless camera system of almost a million dollars and getting commitments from Boulder County Law Enforcement Agencies for 75 dedicated officers to assist with security, if your association hasn't considered the impact on your community in terms of access, parking, security, rentals, etc. now is the time. The designated parade route will be available from 11 am to 3 pm from August 25 - 28 so access to your building along any parade route will be impacted.
We are having to hire an attorney to meet with the city due to the tent city group who want to have up to 50,000 unemployed camp at city park across the street from one of our associations.
Managing a high rise condominium building near downtown we are already feeling the impact of the DNC. Although the governing documents prohibit short term rentals several owners are planning to vacate their homes to make them available for delegates. We find those posting on websites! Some owners of units who may have difficulties selling their unit in the depressed real estate market are also being tempted to jump on the wagon and enter into short term leases. In all these cases we see postings promising use of Association amenities in violation of the documents.
Additionally, the Association is looking at the possibility of needing to augment the on-site security staff during the convention as numerous clubs in the immediate vicinity of the building will attract some of the convention goers.
So, the DNC is having an impact. Unfortunately, until the actual start of the convention we are unsure of whether it will be a positive or a negative impact on our Association.
